It was good, but a little strange, to be back with everyone at Just Retirement again. There were a number of people I was very pleased to see again, and I couple of people I was sorry to see not there and hope I can find a way to meet up again with.
It was a good party, with numerous things laid on, and it was very kind of the company to allow me to attend considering I am no longer an employee there. But the main point I want to make in this article is a criticism.
John Inverdale was the wrong man to hire as speaker. The reason is simply because his passion is sport. That is why he spoke about his previous speaking engagement at a boxing club in Shoreditch. I cannot blame John, because he spoke from his heart. But his heart is not in pensions annuities and never will be.
It would have been better to hire a complete no-name who had a genuine passion for retirement products. I realize that is relatively few people, but such people do exist. Just Retirement has helped over 250,000 people have a better retirement over the last 10 years. I am often reminded of the line in the film “The secret in their eyes”
“A man can change anything: his face, his family, his girlfriend, his religion, his God. But there’s something a man can’t change. A man can’t change his passion” – Sandoval, El secreto de sus ojos
