Wow, it’s been almost a month since my last blog post reviewing A Short History of Modern Philosophy.
When I’ve had time to myself, I’ve been mostly reading these books:
The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman
I’ve previous highly recommended Ryan Holiday’s first book “The Obstacle is the Way”. I like this book even better. Its a book that serves as a companion for life. Every day is a short, one page lesson that only takes a minute to read. The theme of each lesson changes from month to month:
January – Clarity
February – Passions and Emotions
March – Awareness
April – Unbiased Thought
May – Right Action
June – Problem Solving
July – Duty
August – Pragmatism
September – Fortitude and Resilience
October – Virtue and Kindness
November – Acceptance / Amor Fati
December – Meditation on Mortality
Hector and the Search For Happiness by François Lelord
I had previously watched, and enjoyed, the film adaption of this book. I found the book is even more enjoyable than the film, but both complement each other nicely. Written so simply a young child could understand it, but featuring many topics that will get you thinking very deeply, this book is suitable for everyone.
Hector Finds Time by François Lelord
There are three books in the Hector series. “Hector and The Secrets of Love” was unavailable, so I read this instead. Hector has a mid life crisis and again travels around the world learning about how to live a full life and make the most of the time that we have. Most of the characters from the original book return again.
Not as good as the original book in the series, but still worth a read.
Coming up next…
The book that I am currently reading is The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt. I will also be writing tech posts again.
Will try The daily stoic seems interesting
